Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are in a Queensland hospital, health officials said. The two were infected in the US or transit to Australia.
Hanks and Wilson, both 63, went to the doctor after they had a cold.
They have been in Australia for at least a week. Hanks is working with Baz Luhrmann on a film about Elvis Presley’s life, and Wilson has staged two concerts in Brisbane and Sydney to promote his “Halfway to Home” album.
Queensland on Thursday reported seven new cases out of a total of more than 130 from Australia.
Now, the actors will spend 14 days in isolation. According to their sons Chet and Colin, Hanks and Wilson are fine.
Production for Luhrmann’s film was temporarily suspended. The film is scheduled to be released in October 2021.
Queensland Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Thursday that “everyone who came into contact with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson should be quarantined and isolated.”
