The lava falls stopped during the night, but still the strong fire and smoke emanated from the rocky, blackish, and momentarily unstable front.

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) ordered the evacuation of the city of Goma on Saturday night.

Lava erupted from the Nyiragongo volcano in the night sky forming a thick orange cloud over Goma, which has a population of two million.

The volcano, located 10 km from Goma, last erupted in 2002, killing 250 people and leaving 120,000 homeless.

The eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano, which affected the city of Goma, stopped on the outskirts of the town.
