“After 13 years of proudly representing my country, I am announcing that I am ending my international career. I would like to thank the Gabonese people and all those who helped me in my good and bad times. I will keep many beautiful memories, such as “It was the day I started at Omnisport Stadium or the day I returned from Nigeria with the Golden Ball of Africa. And sharing it with everyone was an unforgettable moment,” the former Arsenal player wrote in a letter addressed to the federation in his country.
The 32-year-old Aubameyang has played 72 games for the national team and scored 30 times, being the all-time top scorer for the Gabonese national team.
Due to medical problems, he did not participate in the last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, which took place at the beginning of the year.
In 2015, when playing for Borussia Dortmund, Aubameyang was named African Player of the Year.
