In a message posted on Instagram, the American singer said she is donating to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Therapeutics Accelerator program.
She shared her own experience with the health crisis. “I have to admit, it took me a while to accept, process and change my lifestyle to protect the life of my family, mine and other people.”
Madonna, who recently canceled a series of “Madame X” tournaments, stressed that people should take this coronavirus seriously.
“I am so impressed by the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the efforts of Therapeutics Accelerator on COVID-19 to find new or existing drugs that effectively prevent or treat the disease.”
Madonna’s contribution will go to the COVID-19 Response Fund, led by Gates Philanthropy Partners.
Partners in the initiative include Wellcome, Mastercard, UK Government, and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
Madonna thanked the doctors and nurses who risked their lives during the crisis, exposing herself, and urged people to stay in their homes and not to panic. “I trust the human race that we will overcome this,” she concluded.
