To slow the spread of the new coronavirus, Sovereign Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Thursday decided to extend the isolation – for an indefinite period – and asked the population to stay home, despite the Easter holiday.
Orban announced on Friday morning that the “true test” is just coming and that Hungary will need 8,000 medical devices for an artificial response during the peak of the pandemic, in the context of having only 2,000 in normal times.
The government has announced 77 deaths from COVID-19 so far.
Of the new contamination reported on Friday, 151 come from an elderly asylum in Budapest – where seven people have died.
The government announced that the number of infections in this asylum, with a capacity of 500 places, could increase, and further tests are underway.
Almost half of the confirmed cases in the country were registered in the Hungarian capital, according to data presented by the Government.
