Harvey Weinstein has been convicted

Convicted by a Manhattan court of sexual assault and rape, Harvey Weinstein, 67, may receive up to 25 years in prison, but he is not liable to life imprisonment, as jurors escaped the charge of sexual “predator.”

His sentence will be later determined by Judge James Burke, who led the hearings.

This is the first conviction of a post-MeToo case. The one of actor Bill Cosby being the result of the trials initiated in 2015, before the anti-sexual assault movement began, in October 2017.

The juries need five days to reach a decision unanimously, a necessary condition for pronouncing the verdict.

Jurors should deliver the verdict on the testimony of three women, among the more than 80 who have accused Harvey Weinstein of harassment or sexual assault.
