General Motors to invest 2.2 billion USD to produce electric vehicles

General Motors’ first electric pickup truck will be a pickup model, and production will start later this year and will be followed by a standalone vehicle, Cruise Origin. Last week, GM unveiled the prototype of an autonomous vehicle for ride-sharing services. Reuters reported last year that GM plans to build a new family of premium electric vehicles at the factory, starting in late 2021, with the possibility of relaunching the Hummer brand. The company has announced it will invest $ 7.7 billion in US factories over the next four years. Currently, the Detroit-Hamtramck plant operates in a single shift and is building the Cadillac CT6 and Chevrolet Impala sedans.

The factory will cease operations for several months, starting in February, GM will begin renovation to produce electric trucks and SUVs.
