The Eurovision 2020 contest, due to take place in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, organizers announced Wednesday.
“With deep regret, we announce the cancellation of the Eurovision 2020 competition in Rotterdam,” said in a statement the organization of this event which is watched every year by millions of viewers around the world.
The representatives of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organizers of the 65th edition, have stated that over the last few weeks they have studied many alternative options for organizing the competition. But, “given the uncertainty generated by the Covid-19 propagation in Europe – and the restrictions imposed by the governments of the various participants and by the Dutch authorities – the European Radio and Television Union has decided that it is impossible to organize the live event as planned”.
According to the press release, the organizers are thinking of a 2021 edition in Rotterdam. 41 representatives were to attend this edition.
