American rapper Eminem, a surprise presence at the Oscar gala on Sunday, where he performed the song “Lose Yourself”, thanked the American Academy, in a message posted on Twitter, and expressed regret that it took him 18 years to reach sing the song on the stage of the Oscar gala.
In 2003, Eminem was rewarded with the “original song” trophy but was not present at the gala to perform the song or to pick up his prize.
“If you have another chance, another opportunity … Thank you for receiving me. I’m sorry it took me 18 years to get here, “he wrote on Twitter after the performance.
Eminem’s recital followed an assembly with songs that “cannot be separated from the films in which they were included.” The segment ended with the first notes of “Lose Yourself” and a quote from “Deliverance”: “Sometimes you have to lose yourself before you find something.”
During Eminem’s recital, several stars sang along with the rapper and were delighted, but others seemed confused, such as Anthony Ramos, Kelly Marie Tran, Idina Menzel, Billie Eilish, and Martin Scorsese.
A few weeks ago, Eminem released (surprisingly) the album “Music to Be Murdered By”.
On the stage of the Oscar gala, Cynthia Erivo, Elton John, Idina Menzel, Chrissy Metz, and Randy Newman performed the five compositions nominated in the “best original song” category.
Billie Eilish, a special guest, sang the song “Yesterday” (The Beatles) for the segment In memoriam, in which were mentioned the filmmakers who ceased their lives last year.
