Austria extends isolation until April 13

Austria has decided to extend the isolation measures until April 13 in order to stop the spread of the new coronavirus and tighten the checks, in the context in which many residents have taken advantage of the beautiful weather of the last days to air, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, announced on Friday.

Austria, which has so far announced more than 2,200 contamination and six deaths since the outbreak of the epidemic, imposed severe restrictions on population displacement on Sunday, banning gatherings of more than five people.

Vienna has restored border controls, minimized air traffic, closed ski resorts, schools, and most shops.

“We should not slow down (efforts). We must comply with the measures taken, “Sebastian Kurz told a news conference on Friday.

Just like in France, Austrians are allowed to leave the house only to go to work, first-aid shopping or help the most vulnerable.

Short trips, near the house, are authorized, and the parks are still open.

People who violate these rules risk a fine of up to 3,600 euros, and restaurants and bars reopened can be fined up to 30,000 euros.

Despite these harsh isolation measures, the number of contaminations has increased by over 20% in the last day, according to the Minister of Health.
