A 20-year-old footballer, Edwin Espinoza, was shot dead in front of his home in the Isla Trinitaria neighborhood of Guayaquil in Ecuador.
His coach claims that the player was a victim of confusion.
“Espinoza was a good footballer, very respectful and polite, with an extraordinary future in Guayaquil City. I have known him since he arrived at the club from 12 years old. As far as I know, the attackers confused him with someone else when he was there today at the door of his house, “said Carlos Franco.
Espinoza was a member of Guayaquil City’s second team, 5th in the first Ecuadorian league, four points behind leader Tecnico Universitario.
The player was training at home, the Ecuadorian championship being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
